Cornilles Family Reunion

My Mom's side of the family had a big family reunion last weekend up in McCall Idaho.  This was my first time up there and we ended up having a blast.   My Mom's six siblings, my 24 cousins equaled to 50 people trying to share space, I thought this could be a disaster.  To my surprise, there were no big fights, lots of laughs, good times, and caught up with the people I love dearly.  Here are some of the things we did:

Sung Happy Birthday to Andrew (Melanie's husband) on the phone who couldn't come to the reunion because he's busy studying for boards.

Consumed an entire bag of these addictive cookies, my Mom and I loved them so much we went to the bakery and each got our own bag.  They are the most soft and chewy molasses cookies I've ever eaten.

Ok, I will!

I have to say I have one successful match on my record.  McKay's brother Taylor and his wife Katie.  I met Katie at work, hooked Taylor and Katie together, they dated 2 1/2 years, and have been married for 2 1/2 years.  I feel like I have more matches to make and more to add to my record.

Hurt Knee

The beginning of summer I started to run because the racquetball court at work got flooded and has been out on commission for a long time :(  Well, as I started to run more I noticed I had pain and swelling in my knee.  Normally when something like this happens after a few days it goes away and I feel better.  This swelling and pain kept coming back in waves.  It got to the point where it was painful to walk down the stairs and I had to limp on one of my legs.  I went to an orthopedic, got a X-Ray and MRI done on my knee to see if the doctors suspicion of a meniscus tear was correct.  Thank heaven it came back that it wasn't a tear, if it was that would of meant one word: surgery!  I was prescribed physical therapy twice a week to see if that would help with the pain and swelling.  This was my first time ever going to a physical therapist.  I felt kind of dumb the first couple visits because I didn't know what to expect.  Now that I'm a "pro" I enjoy my PT appointments because the last 15 minutes I get to take a nap while I get electrical stimulation on my knee. 

I like to think of myself as "active" and I like to be because I have more energy and it helps me focus.  Sometimes I dread doing active things because I'm not in the mood or am tired.  Because I was told to hold off being active for a while so my knee can heal and I notice I've been more tired, felt bloated, and dream about wearing sweat pants all the time.  This has been really hard. 

Good news.  Since I've been going to PT I haven't felt any pain.  On Saturday I rode my mountain bike to my parents house and back.  Hooray, a total of 12 miles!  McKay, being the roadie that he is, he makes fun of me because he says it looks weird seeing a girl, riding a mountain bike, on the road.  Don't judge, just love! 

I'm hoping to go hiking over Labor Day weekend down in Bryce Canyon and complete two 5K's in September.  

  

After writing this I realize this is a really dumb post and nobody is going to care, but it's my blog and I can post whatever I feel like.  I don't have much to say this week so far so I apologize for the lack in interesting topics to talk about.

Adoption

McKay and I have some great news.....  We want to announce an addition to our sweet little family...

 

Kevin is the tall one

We have a roommate living with us in our basement!  His name is Kevin, he is 30, single, and is a good friend of McKay's.  I never thought McKay and I would have adopted someone who is in this stage in their life, but I guess life isn't always what we plan.  Kevin is currently living with us so he can find a more permanent place to live.  Welcome to the Killpack family! 

Head Board

 

After much research, measuring, cutting, stapling, and a lot of trial and error, I'm glad to say that I'm finally done with my headboard.  It took a couple of weeks to complete.  It's funny because as I was researching on how to make one in all of the tutorials I found they made it seem so easy to make one.  Well it was a lot easier to make then to spend $600-1,000 on one.  I learned a lot about math, patience, and the importance of accurate measuring.  But here is a list of other tidbits I learned.

1. Math is the language of the Gods and without it, this headboard would have looked horrible.

2. The more simple the design, the easier.

3. Creating a very large compass came very handy when tracing the shape of the headboard.

4. The foam was more expensive then the fabric, plywood, hardware, and batting!

5. I spent $240 to make it

6. Befriend someone who has a lot of tools so you can borrow them, and smarts so you can have them help you do all the math involved with measuring, cutting, and mounting.

My Dad and I work pretty close by each other.  We like to take advantage of this by going out to lunch.  My Dad is really likes Cafe Rio, especially on Wednesday's when they have their Chicken Tostada special.  We had the great pleasure of having my Auntie Caroline from Seattle join us.  Hooray for Wednesdays and family!
